Get Back Into Training After Surgery

February 17, 2017
Traning After Breast Surgery

EXERCISING IS A BIG PART OF MANY PEOPLE’S LIVES, AND AFTER SURGERY YOU MIGHT BE ITCHING TO GET BACK INTO THE SWING OF THINGS. BUT HOW LONG DO YOU HAVE TO WAIT?

Despite what everyone thinks, having breast implant surgery doesn’t necessarily mean weeks of pain and recovery.

Previously, especially with techniques where the implant was placed under the muscle, recovery times were quite prolonged. Today, particularly with the rapid recovery technique The Doctor’s Studio uses, most patients are up and about the next day.

This method was invented by a Texan plastic surgeon who calls it the “Out to dinner breast augmentation”. This might sound a bit optimistic, but it’s absolutely achievable. The Doctor’s Studio has actually had patients that have been able to go out for dinner the same night as their surgical procedure.

As with any surgery, some recovery time is required. However, it is important to stay active after your surgery, because it can help your healing process moving forward. Frequent walks helps prevent any blood clots, deep venous thrombosis and pulmonary embolism, but it is important to take it easy in the beginning. Everyone is different, and some people might heal quicker than others.

WHEN CAN I START WORKING OUT AGAIN?
How long it will take before you can get back into your old exercising routine will vary individually.

After complete recovery you will be able to go back to your normal workout routine, but in the meantime, here are a few steps to follow:

  • Stay hydrated! It’s very important to drink plenty of fluids, especially water, to help with the healing and recovery process.
  • Low-impact activity is the key. Take light walks, preferably with minimal arm movement, work on your core muscles and do some light biking. Try not to get the blood rushing or the heart pumping too much during the first weeks, as you are still in the healing process.
  • Stretching of the pectoral and lower back is important to keep the joints flexible. It will also help you get rid of by-products of the surgery faster. Stretch the pectoral muscles and back muscles equally to keep balance between the two muscles. Your neck muscles may also be tight from the overall surgery, so you should stretch this area gently. Don’t rush and force any movements.
  • If you are eager to start weight training, start by doing leg exercises. Look for lower body machines that don’t put pressure on the upper body in the beginning of the recovery process after surgery.
