How is a Removal & Replacement performed?

Our doctors’ preferred incision site is in the breast crease (inframammary) because the scar usually heals well and is generally difficult to see. It is often the same incision site used for previous Augmentation surgery. The goal of breast implant removal surgery is to remove breast implants and any scar tissue that has formed around the implants. When a replacement is needed, the old implants are replaced with the new. They may be smaller or larger in size, depending on what age you are and what the desired aesthetic outcome is.

It leaves no scar on the actual breast itself and does not restrict the type of clothing that can be worn, even if the scar is still visible.

Whether the implants are placed in front of the muscle – or partially behind (dual plane) – will depend on many factors and can be determined during your consultation with the doctor.

Removal & Replacement surgery is performed in a day hospital under a general anaesthetic.

What are the risks involved?

In general, the risks and complications of Breast Augmentation surgery are:

  • Changes in nipple and breast sensation
  • Asymmetry (one breast appears different in size or shape to the other)
  • Malposition/ displacement (a breast implant moves out of its intended position)
  • Ptosis (sagging of the breast)
  • Encapsulation (hardening of the implants)
  • Wrinkling/rippling
  • Dissatisfaction with the result
  • Additional surgeries
  • Breast/ Nerve Pain

No matter how simple it may seem, every cosmetic procedure or surgery carries risk.
