Pigmentation + Sun damage
Irregular pigmentation of the face is a common, yet difficult problem to manage.
If you neglected sunscreen or loved to sun bathe when younger and are now experiencing brown spots or marks across the face, décolletage and hands, you may be showing signs of sun damage. Ultraviolet radiation found in sunlight has a gradual deteriorating effect on skin and is one of the main causes of the typical changes seen with ageing. Other contributing factors include hormone levels (pigmentation increases with the hormonal elevation of pregnancy), sun exposure, age, and genetics.
A healthy lifestyle, with an avoidance of age-accelerating factors such as (excessive) sun exposure, alcohol, smoking, stress, poor diet and inactivity will slow the process, but for many the best option is active and preventative treatment against pigmentation and brown spots.
Why does this difference matter?
The cause behind your pigmentation and brown spots assist us with deciding the ideal course of treatments. Some pigmentation, for example, goes deeper, making it stubborn and difficult to shift, while other marks, such as post inflammatory hyperpigmentation from acne, may see results faster.
How we can treat your pigmentation
To achieve the optimal improvement in skin quality we recommend a combination of different treatment modalities that include radiofrequency, microneedling, pulsed light, collagen-stimulating injections, and even the injection of your own growth factors and stem cells. For certain cases, we would usually prescribe a specific skincare product that reduces the pigment production by the skin’s melanocytes. Then a more active treatment could be commenced, like pulsed light or fractional RF. Over several months you skin’s response to the treatments is monitored to ensure the best result is achieved, and then maintained.
Treatments for sun damage and hyperpigmentation begin at $50 for IPL spot treatments. We recommend a free, no obligation consultation to discuss treatment options, and a professional prescribed homecare regime to treat and prevent further pigmentation.
